How to give 500VDC as input parameter in PI expert

Posted by: Ateldevicessystems on

The PI expert accepts only 450V maximum. How can we enter values greater than that? We need this for a 500V battery application.
Thanks.

Hi

We limit the max input to 425V in PIexpert. You can use the PIXLS though. There will typically be a "DC Input voltage parameters" section where you will be able to set a DC voltage (manually setting these values will override the AC input section).

With pixls you will not get a full schematic, but the transformer datasheet is still available, and data like output ripple, peak reverse voltage, RMS currents and so on is available to allow you to calculate output diodes, capacitors, etc.

Depending on the power of your application, surge requirements, you can approach this in one of two ways. If power is low, you may be able to try a typical single switch flyback, although prototype testing is crucial. You will need to keep your VOR very low, and will need to carefully test the PSU. Also our more recent IC families have a maximum Vds of 725V against 700V for the older families, so you may want to double check that you are using a recent IC family.
The alternative to this is to use the stack-FET approach. For the stack FET you can simply design the transformer as if it were a single switch power supply.
