"PI expert software" & "EE10" PROBLEM

Posted by: ozgur.bas on

We started to look through a device of another company which uses"LNK30608" and "EE10P8M1.7-00" transformer and "FPT2005" optocoupler. The power stage of the device will be enough for us, but PI design software does not give any transformer size smaller than 12.6mm. We expected it is limited to 12 mm in software. Is it true? We tried with very small power values on software with getting 12.6 mm transformer. Is there any way to verify  a design with same sizes as "EE10P8M1.7-00"? We need a ref design with "EE10P8M1.7-00" which gets 85-265V ac-dc and gives 5 volt 100mA.

Hi.

I'm not sure I fully understand your issue. There is no LNK30608, but there is a LNK306.

I'm also not sure whether you are referring to PIXls or PI Expert, but in either case (assuming you are using flyback topology) you can use a transformer that is not in the default database, assuming you have the complete bobbin/core datasheet.

The LNK-TN family is only on PIXls, but since I'm not sure whether you really are referring to this family I'll explain how to add custom transformers in both tools.

IN PIXls you can simply fill output the cells AE, LE, AL, BW to work with your transformer.

In PIExpert you need to add your transformer to the database.  To learn how go to http://manage.powerint.com/en/design-support/pi-expert-design-software and click on the video tutorial section. Once there choose the component libray tutorial to learn how to add a custom transformer

Hi, you solved our problem, thank you.

We read on part "LNK30608", possibly it is LNK306.

We choose "link switch-xt" aiming hign frequecy for smaller transformer, is it right to choose "linkswitch-xt" family?

Our project requires "85-265V ac dc input, 5V 100mA (0.5W) output isolated power supply",

Core type "EE EI" features "low cost", as an other company uses the transformer

written on "EE10P8M1.7-00" "ECL 1220". (I have attached related transformer document.)

Is it possible to get 0.5W from EE10 size transformer with link switch xt?

Please share any advice which can help our project.

I will try to learn and apply adding new transformer to the database of PIexpert.

I have also attached our PIexpert design file.

Thank you again

Hi.

Sorry about the late reply.

Yes you can surely use LNK-XT for smalller transformer.

You can in theory use a EE10, but you will need to pay attention to your creepage/clearance requirements. I would suggest discussing your needs with the transformer manufacturer.
