With the ongoing adoption of 800V bus architectures in data centers, auxiliary power supply design is growing increasingly challenging. Designers must meet demanding requirements for ultra-low-profile, heatsink-free solutions with minimal PCB footprint—goals that are particularly difficult to achieve for systems operating with 800V inputs.
Under such high-voltage conditions, engineers must carefully address switching losses, which cause temperature increases in power devices and impact system reliability. At the same time, to meet the demands for high power density and low-profile form factors, planar transformers have become a key enabling technology in auxiliary power supply design for data center power architectures.
We will introduce two reference designs from Power Integrations (PI), based on the InnoMux™-2 family of ICs featuring 1700V PowiGaN™ switches. Combined with planar transformer technology, these designs demonstrate:
- Outstanding system efficiency from SR-ZVS switching and 1700 V PowiGaN™ switch
- Ultra-high power-density
- Simplified design through high level of integration
- Enhanced system reliability
These reference designs are well suited for data center computer tray power systems without liquid cooling, providing a practical and forward-looking solution for high-voltage auxiliary power design, with significant value for real-world applications.
