RM8

Posted by: Stewarth on

PI 8 does not list RM8 transformers, your transformer service does. How am I to evaluate using an RM8 tranformer to utilize your service without the PI 8 database? The design is universal input, TOP264, 26Vout, 0.8 A continuous and I have been able to optimize the design using an EF20, see attached. thanks.

You will have to add a custom transformer and bobbin to match the RM8 parameters. There is a demo video on how to do this for Rev 7.0. This same procedure can be used for Rev 8.0

Look for video Tutorials and then see the tutorial called "Component Library"

PI8/Tools/Component Library/Transformers show RM6, 8 and 10 sizes as DEFAULT, but they do not appear when I start a new design or try to force the software. If I create a Component Set and try a new design I get a system error 4. Please respond with recommendations.

Yeah I see why you are having trouble with this. Let me try and explain.

The trouble is that the cores is used for "High Frequency" designs only (which means that they will be used only for DPASwitch designs
You will need to duplicate that entry (call it something else like RM8_Custom) and be sure to not check the High frequency checkbox. This will make it available for 66 kHz and 132 kHz designs (basically all families other than DPAswitch)

Hope that this is clear.
