Enhanced PWM Control Technique Optimized for High Conversion Efficiency Across Input Line and Load

During PCIM Europe 2025 in Nuremberg, Trung Huynh gave a poster presentation about optimizing efficiency across input line and load. Our new TinySwitch-5 flyback switcher ICs feature an advanced control engine which seamlessly manages switching frequency and power delivery to maximize efficiency, even at light loads.

This paper describes an enhanced Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control technique that delivers very high efficiency across a wide range of input line and load conditions. This addresses an emerging industry requirement for reducing consumption in standby–achieving high efficiency below 1 W input. Additional features improve transient response and avoid the problems caused by the bandwidth limitation encountered when using conventional optocouplers in the feedback loop.
