Reference design, application note, or go PI-Expert for this design?

Posted by: caroltech on

Hello,

I prefer to start with a reference design for any new power design, hence the name "reference". I'm trying to make a compact 100W Flyback for powering RGB LED strip. It is a universal input (90~265 VAC) with a single output (5V/20A) isolated. I was wondering if there's any reference design that can meet these specifications, or PI-Expert is the only way to go? I believe when compared to PI-Expert generated designs, reference designs are tested, provide in-depth specs for transformer, coils, and inductors used, as well as, complete layout guidelines and gerbers to test the design and build upon if needed.

Thanks

Why don't you choose an LED strip with higher voltage/lower current requirement?  A 5V/20A output is a very difficult design for a flyback.

Thank you. I will take your advice into consideration. It seems it's the most viable solution for now!
