PI Expert Planar Magnetics Design Walkthrough Ep. 3: Configuring Winding, Via, and Pin Parameters
This overview covers the second step in the planar transformer design process using PI Expert's Magnetics Designer tool. After defining the stack-up, users can refine winding and layer properties such as copper thickness, track width, turn-to-turn spacing, and turn-to-core distances. These parameters can be adjusted at either the individual winding-layer level or across an entire winding group to meet performance and safety requirements.
The tutorial also demonstrates how to configure via properties and pin terminations. Users can select single or multiple vias, adjust via dimensions, and define the start and end pins for each winding. The Spiral Diagram and Electrical Diagram windows help visualize pin usage and winding connections, making it easier to manage winding terminations and complete the transformer design.
