Adding a Boobin to Component Library
Hi,
Are 'Built-in Margin on Right/Left' (Component Library -> Transformer parameters -> Bobbin parameters) and 'SafeLeft/Right' (My Opened Design -> Transformer -> Bobbin Selection) the same parameter, the same thing, but two different names?
Manufacturers don't shown 'Built-in Margin...' on Datasheets. How can I calculate this parameter from Bobbin Manufacturer Datasheets?
Thank you very much for your assistance!

Hello Jose,
It is difficulte to calculate Built-in Margin, but you can find predefined
margins in EE, EF, and ETD bobbins in our library:
http://www.feryster.pl/polski/soft/FERYSTER_lib_recommended.pilib
Please note, that PI EXPERT divide total required safety margin f.e. 6,4mm:2=3,2mm on each side of bobbin, but it is not enough. When you use enameled wire on primary winding, you may have problems to meet safety requirements, the shortest way is between this enameled wire, and secondary pins.
Then, if you use small bobbins, you will use only bobbins with enlarged secondary side, or add additional margin tape, on secondary side.

No they are not the same thing. The Safe-Left/Right is a user overwriteable variable. Sometimes users may want to use additional or less margin that what the software decides to use. For example the software uses IEC60950 standard... For a 230 V system the standard calls for 6.2 to 6.4mm margin. The software uses the more conservative approach of using 6.4 mm. If you are using a vendor that is a ISO certified facility you maybe able to do with 6.2 mm... in which case you have the option of specifying whatever value you want.
How can you calculate this parameter from the datasheet - Simple answer is to manually try to compute the distance from the edge of the winding area to the pins. some special extended creepage bobbins are avialable (for smaller cores) which provide additional distance to avoid use of margin tape.
Hope that helps.
