Planar trafo and InnoSwitch4

Posted by: Tomeco on

Hi!

I need to design a flat power supply (max 10 mm) 60W/24V. The maximum load will not be permanent. just for a few seconds.

I started the design based on the RDR-928 with the idea of just modifying the transformer.

But I gave up on the wound transformer due to non-communication from both the core manufacturer (Hwahe), and the bobbin manufacturer (TBI). These are the only manufacturers where I found a core and bobbin with the required parameters.

Yesterday an email popped up on me that PI-Expert can do planar transformers.

I found a good example (DER-626), but it is only semi-planar.

Obviously, the E32/6/20/R-3C95 core is capable of transferring such power and is made by several reliable manufacturers.

I wanted to use InnoSwitch4, but it doesn't support planar transformers.

I would like to know if this support will eventually be added?

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for the interest in PI products.

InnoSwitch 4 will be updated to planar magnetic support, unfortunately I cannot give you a date.

In the meantime, you can still use InnoSwitch 4 platform for your design, adjusting the parameters to suit planar design (like number of turns). Then use InnoSwitch 3 platform with similar design to reach the required planar transformer. The E32 core is already in the database.

It is not a convenient solution, but it will do the job.

Best Regards,
