Boost dc dc converter

Posted by: mabdeltawab on

Dear All,

I'd like to design a boost converter with the following specs:-

1- input voltage 30:100 VDC
2- Output 320 VDC
3- Output current 135 mA

my question what is the suitable controller to use for this application

Best regards

Mohamed

Hi Mohamed,

The best starting point for you is here:
http://www.powerint.com/en/design-support/reference-designs/design-examples
Look for boost examples. Next step is to install our design software from here:
http://www.powerint.com/en/design-support/pi-expert-design-software
You have here a few video tutorials for using the software. This is the easy way to get the right design from first time. After you type-in your design parameters you get a fully documented project for schematic and transformer design.
A possible solution for your requirement could be on this document:
http://www.powerint.com/sites/default/files/product-docs/top200-204214.pdf
Check Figure 10 on page 8 (Schematic Diagram of a 65 W 230 VAC Input Boost Power Factor Correction Circuit Utilizing the TOP202). You have to choose the right value for the filter inductor L1 in order to use a continuous 100Vdc input. Also, you maybe need TOP204YAI or even TOP227YN to get the full output power for low DC input voltage. If your DC input is as low as 30Vdc you have to build a prototype to see how much power you can get from that input. See the PDF files with specifications from here:

Hi PI_Crusher,

Thanks for your reply. I can't find a way to design a boost converter using PI expert software, Would you please explain how to do

Hi Mohamed,

The best starting point for you is to watch the video tutorials from her:
http://www.powerint.com/en/design-support/pi-expert-design-software
After that, you have to install the software and select various options to see what each of them are used for. Also, check our design examples.
Beside this options, there is nothing else we can do for helping you to learn using the software. When you have a real design problem, you can ask for help.
