Searching for an old version of PI Expert.
Hello, everyone.
I want to design a Flyback power supply with TOP224GN chip which is belong to TOPSwitch-II Family.
But, recent versions of PI Expert cannot support it and I heard that some very old version can help. I am not
sure about that. However, I hope somebody can at least tell me if it is true and where I can get it. Thank you.
Besides, If I want to do some simulation of power supply circuitry including TOP224GN or PFS7539. Which
simulation software should I choose? And How can I get the simulation model of these chips? Thank you, again.

Dear Danyun Li,
Thank you for taking interest in Power Integrations.
May I know where you are based, Sir?
I would like to refer you to one of our FAEs.
We recommend that you use the replacement ICs that we have in TopSwitch FX, JX. These offers more flexibility as you can choose between 132kHz and 66kHz versus TopSwitchII at 100kHz.
With the higher frequency, smaller magnetics are allowed and with the lower switching frequency, you may save on the size of your EMI filters.
As for the simulation tool, we do not have spice models for TopSwitch.
You may try modelling it using behavioral models either with LTSpice or Simetrix.
Again, thank you!
Dear Thorin,
Thank you for your patient and detailed reply!
I am a graduate student in China and want to build a power supply for the control unit of a mechatronic system.
THe input DC power is between 100~400V and output DC power is 12V/DC with 1A current and 13VDC with 1A current.
If there is no spice model, I am thinking if there is necessary of a simulation or I just design it and test it.
Dear Sir,
Here is the link to the spreadsheets for TopSwitch JX/HX:
https://piexpertonline.power.com/site/index
Or on this site: https://ac-dc.power.com/design-support/pi-expert/pi-expert-online/
and click on the laptop picture to access PIExpert online.
You can play with designs in the spreadsheets.
You can just directly input the specifications that you like.
Also, you may access write ups on the TopSwitch Family:
https://ac-dc.power.com/products/topswitch-family/
You may also find design example reports which details the construction of magnetics, shows some waveforms and test results.
https://ac-dc.power.com/products/topswitch-family/topswitch-jx/
These may help you a lot. Or if you can find a DER that matches your needs, then a design is made available for you.
You may also check Application Notes for more help:
Thank you Sir!
Regards,
Thorin
