Can TNYswitch iii or 4 do buck converter application?

Posted by: kevinliu on

Hi

I need a buck converter(90Vac~264Vac) about 15W to supply all primary side ICs' Vcc.

Can TNY switch iii or 4 do 15W buck converter?

or any advise , very appreciate your reply.

Hello kevinliu,

Thank you for interested in using Power Integrations products.

before we make the conclusion, may I ask how much is your Vcc. if it is to support the ICs, why we need 15W power, is there any IC needs big supply current?

Best Regards

Hi PI-YY

My Vcc is about 15V, the relay ( restrict inrusch current) needs about 0.3~0.4A peak with 5~10mS,

to support interleave PFC IC x1, two 4A driver ICs for PFC, LLC IC x1, two high low side driver ICs for full bridge.

   Thanks your reply.

Hello kevinliu,

if the power you need is 15W and voltage is 15V which means you need 1A cucrrent. i think TinyIII and Tiny4 may not be the right IC to use. the current limit of these two ICs is <1A. for a Buck converter, you cannot get output current bigger than the current limit.

Hello,

One of my customer used TOPSwitch-JX in standard buck topology, to achieve currents above LNK-TN limit. It should be no problem for TOPSwitch to support 1A, so maybe just try such solution.
