Ground Instability

Posted by: ajit5wadekar on

Dear Sir,

I have attached a power supply design for 5V / 2A. For this supply I am facing the problem of grounding. i.e. Whenever I connect extra load in parrallel with the i/p of the power supply there is variation in DC ground. It almost varies from to 0.38V. For the same please provide me with the appropriate support.

Hi,

I am sorry I did not really understand your question. Do you mean you connected two loads in parallel on the output of the power supply, and there is a different voltage between the ground of the two loads? What is the load current for each load? Did you use cable for both of them?

It may due to the cable drop voltage of the cable. Let me know if you have more detail description.

Thanks

No its not on output. Its at the input of the power supply i.e. AC Supply, I have various load at input of the power supply and due to this variation at the input my output ground varies.

I am sorry, I am still not getting what exactly the issue of the ground.

As what you said, the output ground varies as there are many loads on the input of the AC power supply. What happened if you get this output ground variation? Did the power supply failed with no output? Any component exploded?

Ground Refernce was changing. Actually I have worked on the design more and I was able to solve the problem but the there is some minor spikes at the output, How can I reduce these spikes?

Also my output voltage decreases with increase in load, so how can I make it more stable?

Hi,

Would you please show me the waveforms of the spikes?

Did you measure the output voltage on the PCB, not the cable end when you added the load? The drop may due to the cable drop voltage.
