Power Supply and Driver for 2000watt LED Agricultural Grow Light

Posted by: skoghan1602 on

Using PI Expert, and found that I could not load any previously made circuits or desings for my use case.

Looking to develop a 2000watt LED Agricultural Grow Light.

Using 4 x 500watt integraded Led's, Also not adverse to using more Integraded LED's for a set up of 8 x 250watt integraded LED's

Can anyone point me into the right direction for getting the correct circuit requirements?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi,

Determine what is the drive LED current you needed to  deliver 2kW.  That is by arranging the LED to the most practical combination, series or parallel or both in order to determine the average effective LED voltage.  Do this combination to optimize your heatsink and light distribution.

Do you need extra coolinng system like a fan or just convection cooling?

You can use this reference as starting point. http://www.powerint.com/sites/default/files/PDFFiles/rdr292.pdf

Distribute the power supply if needed for an ease wiring system of the agricultural light.

PI-Jono,

I wanted to thank you for your response, it is very appreciated.

As I am somewhat new to all of this and electrical engineering is not my background, I find myself out of place.

I am looking for the most effecient way to connect a 2kW light, yes. I do belivie that parallel and series may work well.

When I receive information back from the manufacturer of the integraded LED's voltage I will let you know.

Yes heat is somewhat of a concern although, I have had great sucsses using aluminum heatsinks in the past. I think with this much Wattage I will want to transfer over to a copper heatsink for extended thermal conductivity.

I will also be using Fans to provide continious cooling while the light is turned on, so I will use what i think are standard PC computer cooling fans.

I did look at the refrence starting point pdf that you suggested in your post. It was very helpful however I am somewhat lost on how to spec out the 2kW componets. Do I simply maximize the starting point pdf specs to 2kw?

It would be great if it was distributed as well, to make production much simpler.

Do you know of anyone that might be interested in working on something like this? Does power integrators offer this type of service for a fee?

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

You have a very interesting project, for this situation you need a professional to design your specific application.  Safety is a major concern, so check in your area if thre are some contractors that can support you.

We wanted to support you but we offer IC solutions and design reference only.  We do not service installations.
