Hi.

If you go to this section of the website there is a link  called "Click here to view video tutorials of piexpert 9.0". This will open a pop-up window with different tutorials one of which is called "component library". This video explains how to add a custom core and bobbin.

Let me know if this helps you or if you need additional assistance.

Hello PI-Wesley,

thank you very much for your help.

In video example you set parameter AL = 31 mm , but in datasheet this value is 33 mm.  What is a reason ?

And one more question, if you measure the coilformer  BFW = 2.45 mm ( see picture ) , but in PIExpert you set BFW = 2.25 mm ?

Best regards,
Stepho

Hi.

You probably mean LT and not AL. 31mm is the length of a single turn (measured along the inside wall of the bobbin). 33mm is the Mean length of a turn (measured along the mean of the winding area). The algorithm actually needs LT and not MLT.

As for BFW you need to consider that the measurements have some tolerance to them. So it is possible on the datasheet that one of the measurements used is 6.1+/-0.1

Hi.

Exactly we discuss LT parameter. In your example the ''wall of bobbin" = 6.1+/-0.1 mm .

Bobbin has squared form therefore LT = 4 x 6.2 mm = 24.8 mm . But you set LT = 31mm ?

Is a possible to calculate LT from MLT ( mean length of a turn ) ?

Best regards,

Stepho

I believe you found an error in the video!

I would use 24.8mm myself. Good catch.

Hi.

If you havе the following  ferrite core E25_7_K2006.pdf  and bobbin SP-E 25-7-1693-10B.pdf  .

 Would you please check the parameters ?

AE = 52 mm2

LE = 58 mm

AL = 1900 nH

AW = 61.6 mm2

BW = 15.6 mm

LT = 38.6 mm

BFW =  AW/BW = 3.95 mm

Hi.

The only value I'm not sure about is the LT. The only measures I see are 7.6mm and 7.7mm but these are the inside measure for the center leg of the core. Assuming a 1mm wall thickness I get a slightly lower value than you, but I don't have this bobbin so I can't reall measure it.

The remaining values seem fine

Hi.

Thank you very much for your help.

I measured the actual walls of the bobbin ( 2x9.3 + 2x10 = 38.6 mm ) for LT parameter.

I'm not sure, but I measured several bobbins and found that LT approximately 75 % from MLT ( Мean LT ).

I'll try to make this transformer.

Hi

With material ferrite and specs : AL = 17500 nH/N2 +/-25% ... How to update it onto "Transformer Library" ?? Your software, accepts only 4 digits ... while the actual is 5 digits

Thanks

Hi Novel Antenna,

Thank you for using PI Expert.

Your observation is correct, the maximum allowed for AL value is 10,000. Can you tell us how do you intend use this core? For example, will it be used as Flyback Transformer for a 10W InnoSwitch Flyback power supply?

Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback.

- I'm learning how to use your IC. And not knowing that "Component Library" of "PI Expert 9.1" is not able to share "Component Database" for software "PIXIs Designer 9.1". ... "Plyback" <100W so no need for AL> or = 10000 ... But some of your high power ICs like "LCS708HG" are needing a large AL value.

- After testing 2 software: "PI Expert 9.1" and "PIXIs Designer 9.1", for the same input and output requirements, use the same IC ... But the results with the transformer parameters "NP" are different.

- In software "PI Expert 9.1". I used "frequency mode" is 132khz and 66khz ... but NP is not changed. I do not understand this.

- For size values of ferrite and bobbin. I estimate with values (According to the pictures posted attached): BW=2E - "k" and BFW=((B-C)/2) - "k" (with "k" = 1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2 ... Dependent on the wall thickness of "plastic of bobin", the size of bobin from small to large .... And (AW=BW x BFW) ... How to estimate values: BW, BFW, AW that I use it, right???

- Currently, I want to design charger for electric bicycle, use your IC (TOP270EG) and mode "Adapter", with 170Vac-265Vac input and "frequency" = 132khz, Ferrite material is PC95 ... With output 36V (48V)-80W, Efficiency>90% ...

Can you support optimal design ??

Hi Novel,

Can you share the spreadsheets that you have made? Let me go through them and come back to you.

Regarding electric bicycle charger design, here I am sharing couple of charger designs which uses TOP switch. You can use these designs for your reference.
