Topswitch frequency synchronisation

Posted by: cjones on

I am looking at a new power supply design where I need to synchronise the switching frequency to an external clock at around 96kHz. The Topswitch GX datasheet shows how to do this using the multi function pin and I'll be using an opto-isolator.

Does the newer Topswitch JX device work in the same way, i.e. completing the current switching cycle once the M pin has been triggered?

Secondly, what is the best way of going about the transformer design, as it will need to operate at 132kHZ at startup, then synchronise to 96kHz once the microcontroller has booted up. (The design will be 12V output at 4A).

Is there any way of telling the PIExpert software the actual operating frequency?

Top-JX does not have Sync capability

Thanks for your help.

Presumably the Topswitch HX does not have this feature either?

Yes, that is correct.
