LNK30X ability to withstand secondary voltage with no input
Dear All,
We are using an LNK306 (might change to 304 or 305) which is used to power an energy measurement device (high volume).
Output voltage is 12V which feeds a relay and linear regulators (3.3V) which powers the micro and other circuitry.
During production the device is calibrated and programmed via a "bed of nails".
It would be very convenient if the circuit could be powered directly by 12V via the calibration equipment, instead of powering it from 230VAC.
Is the LNK30X able to handle 12V at the output without being fed the 230VAC at the input?
No destruction? No overheating? No reduced reliability?
Best Regards

Thanks for your quick reply,
While I'm at home (it is 2AM in Sweden) I will have to wait for tomorrow to send schematic.
Is there an email address I can use. I don't want schematic to be out in the open on the forum.
Regards
/Jan
Our circuit is mailed to you
Any response?
I have been asked to provide more information, which I have done.
But still no reply!

Hi,
When designing the test fixture, please ensure that none of the datasheet parameters are violated when voltages are applied to any of the pins during test. If this care is taken, it is OK to apply 12V at the output during test.
I hope this clarifies.

Hi,
If the data sheet recommended values of currents through the device pins and the voltage on the device pins are not excedeed, the device should be safe.
We will need to review your complete circuit and understand how your bed of nails fixture will be connected and the resulting current flow in the circuit before we can specifically say whether it will be aceptable.
Having said that, I would imagine that if your fixture applies 12V to not only the output of the power supply but also the input, that may not be a problem. However I would suggest you send us a copy of your schematic so that we can confirm.
