Help with wide range power supply
Hello, I am looking for a power supply with an input of 15-400VDC. A mininum input of 40VDC would work but is less ideal. Output would be 12VDC at 200ma. Is there any existings designs that do this? A chip that could be a starting point? We are currently using the LNK306 in another project is there a way to make the LNK306 work down to the lower voltage? Someone had suggested the DI152 but I do not know how to make that chip work for this input range.
Thanks,
Josh

PI-NANO,
Thanks for the link to DI-152. It appears the TNY280 should put out 12VDC but I am not seeing how I would modify the schematic to allow this? Would it be as simple as changing the value on VR1? Also, do you know of a company that would make or has some of the custom trasnformers used in this schematic for testing?
Thanks
Hi,
Unfortunately you can not simply change VR1. Since all the devices used on secondary side was designed for 5V. Now that has to be changed for 12V. So Most of the devices will change on secondary side like Transformer, Output Diode, Output Capacitor, VR1 etc.
If you need any design help, you can contact any of our design consultants. They will be able to help with the design according to your needs.

PI-NANO,
Thanks for your help. I have emailed the Design Consultants to see if they can assist in getting this design modified. I will keep updating this post as the project moves forward.
Thanks again - Josh

Hi,
TinySwitch-III (TNY280PN) can be used for this application. You can read DI-152 to design this circuit. Design example which was shown in the document is designed for input voltage range of 18VAC - 265VAC. If you can redesign this circuit to generate 12V output (Since the schematic shown in the document was designed for 5V output), you can use TNY280PN.
