Different designs at PIExpert 7.3 and 8.0

Posted by: zdedeoglu on

Hi,
I made a design at PI Expert v7.3. After then i installed PI Expert 8.0. When i attemp to open my design, The software gives an error like this.
"Problem: The file you are opening is a format available with older versions of PI Expert. Importing may override your previous design parametersç Select yes to import."
When i click to yes, it says a different error like this.
"Selection: Could not optimize for cost.
Problem: Optimization fialed. Could not find a PI device with adequate optimization type.
Fx: Consider alternative, higher power, device family, change optimization type*, increase efficiency estimate (N) complete design manually.
*N/A for tinySwitch-II family"

I click OK. My design is open. But at my original design, i chosed EE42/21/15. But at the new one, the transformer is changed to ETD39/20/13

Is there any problem at the first design. I can not change the transformer type manually at the second design. And also there is some error messages at the seconf design (Maximum flux density limit exceeded, Peak flus density limit exceed, Gap lenght too small, and etc.

Zafer

Hi,

Could you please attach the original PI Expert 7.3 file? Then I can take a closer look and understand what is going on. We may have changed some of the optimization parameters which is what is causing optimization to fail. Also if optimization has failed the core chosen and design parameters visible aren't necessarily valid for the design and thus the power supply may not work properly if built from this design.

You should be able to manually select a core and optimize around that core when the "Solutions Filter" appears right after you click "Optimize". Simply set both the "Starting Core" and "ending Core" to the same core size and then click ok to optimize.

Hi,
Sorry. I wrote PIExpert 7.3. NO, Not 7.3. It is 7.1
I am attaching the .uds file which i was created with PIExpert 7.1. When i attampt to open this file with PIExpert 8.0.4.1, the software change the core type and give a lots of error.
At first, i was set for "starting core" to the minimum capacity core and set the "ending core" to the maximum capacity core. That time the software don't chose EE42/21/15
Yesterday, I was set both settings to EE42/21/15, then everyhing is ok.
May be this is a little bug when attemp to open a file which is created with old versions.

But TOP261EN still don't work. :(

Thank you.
Best regards,

You are correct there is a difference in calculations between the two versions of software. I would trust the newest version's calculations. You are very near the universal open frame power limit with this design for even the largest device. If possible reduce your specified output power or you can try increasing the input voltage.

That's the best you can do. Sorry about this!
