Battery charger design
Hi
I would like to design a Battery charter of about 400Watts output with auto boost /float facility.
Please advice the design Notes/Sample designs/ideas and the suitable product model to start...

Hi,
Good day
I am a design engineer working for a company called Statron. Our company decided to develope a battery Charger suitable for charging NiCd battery and support connected load. we will adopt modular concept with N number of 48V charger modules connected in parallel to enhance required power upto 1000W.
the nominal votlage of battery charger is 48VDC. No. of cells considered is 44. the total voltage at boost shall be 44 x 1.6 = 70.4VDC for float 44 x 1.42 = 62.48V.
by sensing the battery current more than 60% of 0.2C5 rate (0.2 times the battery nominal AH capacity) the charger shall change automatically from float condition to boost condition. when the battery current less than 20%, the charger shall change over from boost to float.
I would like to use PI devices to design the basic charger module.. please help me to choose appropriate PI switch or device.
I have reviewed the PI product range. I feel that, Hyper family is suitable for my application.
looking forward for your early response for the above
best regards

Yes it would be possible to use our Hiper LCS and Hiper PLC products with a CV/CC output characteristic. The advanced features you're looking for though, are not features that are included on these devices. You would need to design external control circuitry to monitor charging current as well as adjusting the output voltage for your different boost and float operating conditions.

Dear Traveler,
many thanks for your reply.
yes. you are right. the device is not equiped with flot/boost change over.
i have my own design to create an error signal to adjust pwm. my requirement is how to integrate the signal to PI divice.. which pin should i use?
if you have any design idea to integrage external feedback signal to PI divice to control out put voltage, it will be useful for me to make tailor made to suit my application.
I hope you understood my outlook. please advice.
One more idea I need from you that, can we parallel two converters in parallel through Blocking Diode at output path? If you have any Design Idea, pelase advice.
best regards
