triple insulated wire ?
Hello
My name is James, I'm from Brazil and I'm starting to design switching power supplies,
I’ve found the IC’s on the market and found it very useful, especially because you make available a software.
My doubt is about (triple insulated wire 27AWG) wire that I do not find in Brazil, I wonder if you know where I can find it, or if I can just use a magnet wire, of the same thickness.
I would also like to know what the main advantages of using triple insulated wire, instead of magnet wire.
Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for considering Power Integrations for your application.
Use of triple insulated wire often enables you to design a transformer without margins thereby reducing the size of the transformer. This also provides benefits in terms of reduced leakage reactance and better window utilization.
You do not have to use the triple insulated wire if you are not aiming for a certain core size. In PI Expert, see the left hand side column. Under "windings", select "secondary" and a window should pop-up. You will be able to chahge the wire type to Magnet wire instead of T.I.W. THis will enable you to use ordinary magnet wire.
Please let us know if you have further questions.

Hi James,
Just a thought, but have you asked the Brazilian PI distributor about Triple Insulated Wire? They might know where to get it, or maybe even sell it.
Adeus,
Rob.
Hello everyone.
First I would like to thank everyone for the excellent care, this forum is great.
I would also add that I contacted the supplier of Furukawa in Brazil, but they do not import this line, so they offered the possibility of them doing an import, but due to the small quantity it is unviable.
I contacted a company here in Brazil that makes transformers and they informed me that they are aware of this triple insulated wire but since we do not have this wire in Brazil they use a 180 degrees magnetic wire (wire with a thicker layer of varnish).
If possible let me know what risks I run if I just replace the wire without making any changes such as margins and isolation.
If it is not too much to ask, what is the average price of 1kg of triple insulated wire 27AWG there, whatever is the place you guys are.
Please, let me know any news.
Thank you all.

Hi James,
For an explanation of the benefits of T.I.W., see this:

Unfortunately, I do not know where you can find T.I.W. in Brazil. You might be able to order from the US or Europe, but I think the cost of shipping would be very high.
