Test RDR-193

Posted by: scott tsao chi… on

Hi Experts,
I tested RDR-193 and I found it was woking ok at first 10 minutes with Leviton dimmer. After that, the LEDs flicker sometimes. I turn the dimmer and it happens also. By the way, I changed value for R15 but I put it back later as the original and tested it. It looks like some noise come out from transformer. Can you fix this problem for me? Thanks
Scott

Hello Scott,

Missing information from your request it is the output voltage/current for your LED lamp. According to http://www.powerint.com/sites/default/files/PDFFiles/rdr193.pdf page 5, RDR-193 it is designed for 21V@0.33A output. If your LED lamp is different, you have to use our PIXls Designer tool to recalculate the transformer.

Hi,my LEDs are fine which are 6 X 1W high power. I retry it without dimmer and it just works perfectly. The problem comes from my dimmer bought from Home Depot and it's cat. no is 6681 made by LEVITON. Any suggestion? Thanks

Hi Scott,

In order to cover a broad range of input voltages and conduction angles there are few critical design parameters. If your LED is not identical with the one used in RD193 you must adjust the design, especially the transformer. What you described is clearly indicating a very tight margin. You should not try so hard to ignore the voltage and current rating of your LED because this is precisely the critical design point. The power rating is just a secondary parameter, the dimmer is not important at this stage.

Hi Expert,
Can you provide the rating of LED which have been used on RDR-193? Because this string of LEDs are made by OSRAM and the current rating is 1A. It was working well on CV(18.5Vdc) and CC(350MA)when I did not use a Triac Dimmer. When I connect the dimmer the flicker problem come out when the LEDs become warmer.

Hello scott,

If you bother to read the answer to your questions or the RDR-139 spec you find this:
RDR-193 it is designed for 21V@0.33A output.

Hi Expert,
Sorry I still can not get your point. I tried TI driver-tps92010EVM-592 which is 18V@).325A output. It works fine with 5 LEDs on the triac dimmer. Should I change my loading for RDR-193?
That is my point. Sorry to bother again. I have been read RDR-193 for couple times and it did not mention about loading. Thanks
