Output voltage greater than 36V using TL431 ?

Posted by: -_nando-_ on

Hi There,

I'd like to know what are the alternatives for the feedback network on a SMPS with Vout greater than 36V.

As TL431 supports 36V at most, would it work fine if I place a series zener? For example, for a 40V SMPS I may calculate the TL431 as if it would work on a 31.6V SMPS and then place an 8.4V zener in series.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards!

A series zener will work. You want to verify the power dissipation on the components.

Hello Again,

So, my PSU will be 41V. I would like to know, which one of the two options on the attached image would be the correct form to place the zener series diode.

Thank you very much!

I would recommend option 1.

Hello Cochrane, thank you very much for your quick reply! I'm opening a new thread now for design review, I would be pleased if you could take a look at it.

Best Regards and happy new year!
