manufacture transformer

Posted by: maleManGuy on

Hi Everyone.
If there is a power supply reference design I like... 12VDC, 8.4W... based on the LNK606. How do you get the transformer? I understand for a prototype I could make it but to mass manufacture them would someone in Canada do that? Does Power Int provide their reference transfomers?

who should I go to?

thanks

Jeff

For 12 Vout / 8.4W we have the DER-215 reference design. However we do not know if this design is suitable for you. If you tell us more about your application, we may have some other suggestion.

For the transformer, you may pick an “off of the shelve” transformer or ask a transformer’s company to manufacture your custom transformer. Decision depends on your production volume. If this is not a huge volume, you may contact Premier Magnetics. They have a many transformers to be used with Power integrations products. For transformer manufacturers you may look at

Thank-you for your reply.

The reference design ought to be just right. 5W is all we need @ 12V but an off-the-shelf transformer is easier and the reference design for 8.4W (DER-215) is what I noticed and thought it would be good.
Quantity could be in batches of 500 to 2000 or more at a time. We want to power a microcontroller/zigbee chip and numerous LEDs. Our current 2.8W power supply browns out depending on how many LEDs we use. Our system also has an audio AMP which is difficult to run with LEDS simultaneously. Our need is basically to keep it small, with 5W or more @ 12VDC :-)

Is the reference transformer available?

thanks

The report for DER215 includes a transformer design. But since we do not offer the DER215 as a kit, there is not manufacturing who has already built this transformer. What I would do is to contact the transformer vendors listed in our component supplier section, show them the report and ask if they can build it for you or if they offer some solution suitable for your design that has been already built. Thank you. PI-Worf
