Transformer Parameters - Adding a new core to Component Library

Posted by: pentaindustrial on

I would like to add a new core and bobbin, but I have made some mistakes about the geometry of the core: Can you explain-me, through a picture if possible, the areas of the core? It´s very important add the new core and bobbin correctly for a sucessfull project.

I would like to know the meaning of the letters "AW", "BW", "LT", and "BFW"(see attached picture).

I´m in doubt about the material types also: What´s the difference between IP6, IP12R and HT50? The IP12R is more common than the others. Some of PI devices work with 300 or 400KHz. Can I use a core of the material IP12R for this work frequency, too? How can I proceed?

Thanks a lot!

There is a demo video on how to do add the transformer into the library. This video also explains the meaning of the parameters. Please visit
http://www.powerint.com/en/design-support/pi-expert-design-software
Click on the video that is titled "Adding a Custom Transformer into the Component Library"

Meaning of terms
AW - Area of Window (the shaded blue area in your attachment)
BW - Bobbin Width
LT - Length of single Turn
BFW - Bobbin Fit Window (This is a tough one to explai with words - see the video for this) It is the height available to wind so that core halves fit around the windiings. See the video... its explained better there.

Hi all,

I watched the tutorial video for the adding custom transform. This si ice information. But I would like to toroid transform. So I misunderstand some parameters for this core. For example BW(Bobin width) parameters, How can I transform this parameters from sample "EE" core to "toroidal" core?

Unfortunately PI Expert does not support toroids...
