Top246R package available for big amounts??

Posted by: umut karadag on

I would like to know if the top246R package producable by PI. I want to use a top switch in an smd package (R-package) rather than its through hole format. I could find this component from digikey only for 30 pieces, however i want to buy in 1000 pieces in the future. I have received a quatation from digikey for 750 pieces, but i still want to know that if power integrations this package produces.

Also G-package is in smd form which i can use. but I dont know as if this package produced by PI in the future.

Hello umut,

We placed older parts number under “archive” name not because we do not produce them anymore, but because we offer already newer and improved generations. Nevertheless we still offer all the parts you can find on our web page, and you will be able to find them from big vendors:
http://mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=TOP246R (2 weeks Factory Lead-time)
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=596-1099-2-ND
.

thanks for the reply,

I want to know if the top246R in the next five years producable. It is important because we want to buy 10000 pieces in the future (at least this number for the following years).

Also the top254gn, may be i can replace r package with this one. The same question still exist. Also i would like to know if this second chip is reliable for heat transfer when 20 watt power transfer occurs.

hello umut; It is had to predict what would happen in 5 years but as long as I know, there is no plan to discontinue the top246R. Regarding the heat dissipation for G package, one way to handle the heat for this package is to design your PCB with a big copper area and soldering the source pins to this area. Keep in mind that the amount of heat generated is proportional to the primary current. So if your design is implemented with lower rms primary current, the part will generate less heat and smaller copper area would be needed. thank you
