New design- Common mode choke and capacitor

Posted by: omrhkrishna on

Dear all,

I am going to desig a powersupply for our modem application

I/P Volt 85-265VAC
O/P Volt 5VDC
O/P Load current 2Amp.max
Devise TNY 280PN

I am requesting u to give some suggestion for selecting the components for input filtering such as common mode choke and capacitor

I mean specification

possible some part number of components

Hoping ur reply

Dear,

Can u suggest the capacitr type and value also ( along with the inductor for filtering)

My application is 5V/2Amp, and the device is TNY 280PN

Hope the so called Inductor will be suitable for my application

If any change is there pls let me know

It is very difficult to suggest input EMI filters. This depends among various things on the layout.
As far as differential mode filtering is concerned, use a pi filter (one 1 mH inductor sandwiched between the 2 bulk capacitors) - this should be
For common mode filtering - try 3 things
1) Use shield windings on your transformer (from PI Expert)
2) Use a Y capacitor between primary side DC bus positive(B+)and secondary side RTN nodes
3) If needed, use a common mode choke (I'd start with 5 or 6 mH) which can carry the rated input current (IVG)

How do we get the values of Capacitor and choke...??

wht is the parameter to be taken care..??

I think its not common to all power supply, values and type of component may change depends on the input and output specs

Hoping ur suggestion

NOt really. The EMI filter is purely a function of the layout... The only thing you want to do is make sure that the wire size used on the Common mode choke is capable of carrying the current without getting unacceptably hot. The wire size will dictate the physical size of the choke... The value depends from design to design.
Capacitor values too - function of the layout and transformer design.

Dear,

I/P Volt - 18V- 265VAC
o/p volt - 5VDC
Load current- 1Amp-2Amp max.
Device used - TNY 280 PN

I have already designed a power supply pcb(2 Layer) of the so called specs and workng well and good. Now I am planning to change to single layer as the cost is less.
Is there any critical thing while routing the tracks ,if so pls let me know ASAP as our desgn is in progress

1. Track width
2.Creapage & clearence ( earth, Line ,Nutral, ELVC)
3.Anythng which can improve the perfomemnce

Hoping your reply

Is there any requirement of a snubber circuit across the out put rectification diode..??

If so how it should be..?? I mean both capacitor and resistor sholud parallel to diode or capacitor and resistor is sries and it will be parallel to diode

which combination is preffered..??

Hoping your reply
