constant current output

Posted by: mquinlan on

How practical is it to implement an off-line regulator which gives a constant current (0.5 to 3A @ 4V) output at 75 to 80% efficiency?

May I ask what is your application? if you need output at 4V it means that you need CV operation mode and not CC operation mode. OR may be what you need is not CC but constant POUT? Please provide more info to have better undertanding of your need and to see if some of our design feets for it.

The 4V refers to the maximum voltage out. The output current is adjustable between the limits shown. The maximum power is 12W

we do not have any reference design where we have adjustable CC operation.

Do you have a reference design for fixed constant current. The application if for LED drive.

I may have a simple (relatively) modification to a constant voltage regulator to provide constant current provided the regulator employs flyback and opto-isolated feedback . Can you recommend a device family and reference circuit to achieve 75% to 80% efficiency with 4V output at 3A, offline and isolated with optoisolation used for the feedback?
