LinkSwitch-TN Buck Design

Posted by: DustinNortek on

Hello, i have set up the attached Design spreadsheet file and have also attached my schematic.

The result shows "L-TYP" of 207.6uH. Is this meant to be a "nominal" value? Does this mean i can select a 220uH +/-20% Inductor? (that would mean that the inductor could be as low as 176uH or as high as 264uH.

Thank you,

Hi,

Based on the spreadsheet you sent, the KL_TOL field with 1.2 as an input takes into account manufacturing tolerances. Also, it was recommended that you use the next highest standard value for the inductor based on the computed 207.6 uH L_TYP. The spreadsheet factors in tolerances and therefore recommends the use of a 470uH inductor instead. That way you can deliver output power with inductance values as high as 564 uH and as low as 276 uH. With the 220 uH inductor with +/- 20% tolerance, the lowest inductance of 176uH may not be enough to deliver the required output power since the typical computed inductance is 207.6 uH. Choosing a 470uH inductor would be playing on the safe side. I hope this helps.

Regards,
