Any way to stop Linkswitch-CV switching AC when press button, is it possible to do that without damage the IC?

Posted by: CY 2022 on

Is it possible to add a momentary push button and some components so that when press, the linkswitch IC will stop switching and output DC will be zero Volt?

When button release, it will be back to normal operation. I plan to use LNK623DG with the design less than 5watt, 6VDC. Can I use resistor and push button (normally open) in series connect to the FB pin, so that when press, cause it to drop zero volt. Will this damage the IC or there is a better way to do it.

Please advise.  Thanks.

Hello CY 2022,

Thank you for using our device.

The IC will not be damaged when you connect a normally open push button in series with the FB pin, it will just enter auto restart. Meaning when the button is not pressed the output voltage will drop to zero volt and will try to switch-ON for 200 ms and it will be off for 1 second and so on until you push the button which the output voltage will be back to regulation. (see LinkSwitch-CV datasheet page 3, Auto-restart and open-loop protection and page 13 auto restart ON time and OFF time) (https://www.power.com/sites/default/files/documents/linkswitch-cv-data-sheet.pdf).

However this will not meet your desired application in which the IC will stop switching completely when the button is released. A feasible way we can think of is to keep the converter running using a load switch at the output.

We hope this will help your current situation.
