LNK3206 has two current limits defined. Why two Ilimit defined. Which current limit to chose for Buck Inductor design.

  1. The LNK3206 has two current limits defined. So why two Ilimit current defiend and which to chose to  design Buck Inductor.
  2. at CBP = 0.1 uF  ( di/dt = 95 mA/uSec - Max 515 mA) and (di/dt = 610 mA/uSec - Max 650 mA).
  3. If Inductor is 470 uH then what should be the Max current rating of Inductor to be designed for the above current limits.  Isat > 515 mA or Isat >  650 mA

The Capacitor on BP pin defines two current limits

  1. C = 0.1 uF
  2. C = 1 uF .
  3. What will be current limit if we use a 500 nF capacitor. Is the current limit will be between current limits at 0.1 uF and 1 uF. This is to characterize the boot up time and Inductor form factor.

Hello Harish,

Thank you for posting in our forum. The two capacitance values mentioned in the datasheet are the only values recommended to ensure correct operation. The two current limits made for this device is to allow design flexibility for our customers.

Please follow this design guide to help you select the right device and inductor: https://www.power.com/design-support/application-notes/an-70-linkswitch-tn2-design-guide
