TNY287D powered from 12V rail?

Posted by: treez on

Hi,

Can TNY287D be powered from a 12v  rail rather than a bias coil? (ie via a resistor from a 12v rail)

We will do output overvoltage via opto pulling down EN/UV

If powered from a bias rail, how will it know what cap is connected to BP/M pin, and thence how will it know what peak current sense threshold  to apply?

Hello treez,

The TNY287 can be powered by an external voltage source but it will need to be applied after the device has successfully started up.

The IC determines the current limit to be used at start-up and if you apply a constant 12V before start-up to the pin it may cause issues.

I hope this answers your questions and please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
