HV Flyback SMPS

Posted by: ccastro on

Hi, I need to design a flyback SMPS with the following requirement:
Input voltage range: 290 - 800 VDC
Isolate Output: 24V
Output power : 50W.

I was trying  to use  your excellent PI Expert Online but when I introduce my inputs requirements, a pop-ups a warning windows saying that the limits its 425 V...
Do you have any solutions, reference desing or anything that could help me?
Thank you in advance for any information.

Hi ccastro,

Thank you for reaching out. I would like to express my gratitude for using PI Expert Online.

We do not have PI Expert for higher breakdown voltage rating InnoSwitch3-EP devices. For this reason, I suggest using PI XLs for your application.

With the maximum input voltage of 800 VDC, reflected voltage of around 135 to 180, and leakage inductance voltage spike at the primary VDS, the expected primary drain voltage at the primary switch during turn-off is around 1200 V. To have sufficient margin for the VDS, I suggest using the 1700 V variation of InnoSwitch3-EP.

Below is the PI XLs I generated using your specification. Please feel free to edit the design according to your requirements.

Below is the link to the reference design for a 35W Isolated Flyback using 1700 V InnoSwitch3-EP with an input voltage of 40-1000 VDC.

I am hoping that this helps.

Have a great day ahead!
