Why so many half wave rectified LNKXXXX designs?

Hi,
In power.com literatuire, we see lots of half wave rect LNKxxxx bucks off the line......if these draw more than 5mA dc from the mains (HW rect draws DC) they are illegal....so why does power.com show them?

Hi,
Thank you for using PI-forums,
We show these documents of LNKxxxx using halfwave rectifiers to show our customers that our IC is capable/flexible of running whether in HW or Bridge rectifiers. and some of our PI Customers prefer Halfwave Rectifier instead of bridge rectifier. it is true that there are drawbacks in using HW vs Bridge rectifiers, to counter this problem we design power supplies that would balance these drawbacks. like using a larger value bulk capacitor when using a HW rectifier. you can find tips and suggestions like these in our App notes. There are plenty of APP notes for our products in our website power.com.
Thank you and have a nice day,
regards,
Sigris
