Heatsink for LNK3209?

Posted by: treez on

Hi,

We are doing Buck for 100-265vac, 44uF Cin, HWB, 24V, 17W output.

We use LNK3209. SMD-8C package.

Are there any heatsinks for it...or is it the usual glue-on SOIC8 style heatsinks?

Hi treez,

For LinkSwitch-TN2, the Source pin serves as a heatsink. The copper area for the Source pin must be maximized to improve heat sinking. It is also recommended to maintain the Source pin temperature below 100oC. You can refer to Application Note AN-70 LinkSwitch-TN2 Design Guide where a section that discusses heat sinking for LNK3209 is included.

As for your desired power output of 17W, we can only recommend the use of LNK3209 up to around 10 W only as the power loss in the switch may be too high which can lead to higher temperature as well.

Thank you.

Regards,

PI-Hiro
