400W HiperTFS Forward in plastic case?

Posted by: treez on

Hi,

We wish to do a 400W HiperTFS Forward in plastic case?

Its for a household handheld consumer product. Do you think regulations will allow us to use a metal enclosure?

From my other post, you agree, that if a plastic enclosure must be used, then it must have metal foil lining for shielding purposes otherwise it will never pass radiated EMC?

Hi,

Thank you for showing interest in Power Integrations and its products.

Each application and end customer have their own requirements and internal standards.

Using a metal enclosure does not mean it will fail or pass regulations (you will also have to identify the relevant regulations for your application).

Metal heat spreaders ("foil lining") are commonly used in compact adapter/charger applications for two reasons, improve thermal performance and radiated emissions compliance.

Please take note that using a metal heat spreader/enclosure does not mean your eventual power supply will pass radiated emissions standards.
