TOP266EG 12V 6 Amps SMPS - Key parameters

Posted by: atulbhakay on

Hi,
I have designed a SMPS using TOP266EG. The input is 100V to 265VAC and outputis 12V , 6 amps
I have attached the design results generated from PI Expert - online
I have modified key parameters like
Kp (so that Max duty cycle is < 50% )
VOR
Efficiency

I selected the ETD29/16/10 transformer because EEL25 is not easily available in India

Kindly verify the design

Hi Atul,

Thank you for choosing PI product for your application. The design sheet is correct. I would like to know the application. If you are looking for higher efficiency, look into Innoswitch. Since output current is large, efficiency is high with sync rectifier on secondary side instead of diode. Innoswitch is highly integrated isolated device with sync rectifier drive. Please check details on below link.

Thank you
Application is - Load is 2 nos 12VDC Fans. Each fan takes 900mA and the controller takes 100mA
So total expected load is 900+900+100 = 1900mA (1.9A)

Starting current of each DC Fan is 3 Amps, lasting for 1 second.
Hence designed for 6 Amps

Hi Atul,

Thank you for sharing application information. Understand that your steady state output power requirement is low. Still if you are looking for part count reduction, look into Innoswitch.

Thank You

Hope that designing for a max duty cycle of less than 50 % (Discontinuous mode of operation) is OK for this "high" current of 6 amps

Hi Atul,

The fan has wide input voltage range, if unit enters into current limit mode, output capacitor supplies most of the transient current.
