Switcher IC options

Posted by: miguelangelzennio on

Hello,

I am currently designing an isolated flyback AC-DC converter with 85-265VAC input, 5V and 1W output (aprox.) and I need to choose the Switcher IC. My idea is to use a CV regulation in order to avoid using an optocoupler from the secondary part of the transformer. Looking through your webpage I have seen several families that could fit in my design. For example LinkSwitch-LP, LinkSwitch-3 or LinkSwitch-CV. Is there any recommendation of which of these families is the best option regarding some parameters or can I use any of them for my application?
Thank you very much in advance.
Have a nice day,

Hi,

Yes, you may use the LinkSwitch variants you mentioned for your design. As for which variant is best depends on your desired output profile and other performance and design parameters (No load consumption, CV/CC curve, parts count, etc). You can use our online tool to help you with your design:

or check out this presentation on IC selection:

https://ac-dc.power.com/videos/product-selection-low-power-applications/

The ICs webpage contains design example reports you can copy or modify depending on your needs. This is for a 5W 1.75W design using LinkSwitch-LP (LNK564DN)

Finally, if you can provide me with more detailed specifications and intended design application, we might be able to give you the exact part number you need.

Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you very much for the information.
My application is designed to be included in a domotic RF product. It could be used as a switch (in order to detect touch in switches) or as a small actuator.
The inpout voltage could be 110VAC or 230VAC and there will be always a small consumption (due to the BCU unit) and consumption peaks due to the RF conmunication or relay switch (but we thing that 1W output is enough).
My first idea is to use LNK625DG or LNK564DN. Do you recommend me any of these in particular for my application?
Thank you very much in advance.
