Ultra-Wide Range input PSU for Industrial Controls
Hi,
We have a "legacy" DC-DC convertor design for our industrial controllers done several years ago using a TinySwitch-III device (TNY280PN). This was based on the information that was then put into Design idea DI-152. That drives the BYPASS(BP/M) pin with a constant current source and thus extends the low end input voltage operating range.
We are looking at refreshing these designs, should we stick with the existing TinySwitch-III solution or is there now a newer device series that we should now consider. while still retaining a design that can work with the Ultra-wide input range of 18-300 V dc.
Any thoughts or pointers on this would be welcome.

Hi PI-Pike,
As said its used on a DC-DC convertor design used on our systems, Which are industrial DC secure power systems. The output voltages of these system supplies Customers DC Load & charge Batteries. These are manufactured in multiple variants with different nominal DC output voltages. 24V upwards to 120V, and even 220V. with the max operating V been 140% of the nominal. The DC-DC convertor runs from the battery maintained output and provides supplies for the controller / instrumentation module(s). i.e. secondaries of +/- 12V for analogue circuits & +5V for logic / micro's. Current designs up to 6W.
Hi millst,
I recommend sticking with the TinySwitch solution, it is good with the 18-300V dc input.

Hi millst,
What's the application of this device?
I suggest you should stick with the existing TinySwitch-III solution for the design.
But if you want to check a newer device, you might want to check LinkSwitch-XT2.
