HiperLCS for Audio
Hello,
I am planning to build a hi-fi amplifier with SMPS based on PI device and currently I am wandering what is the peak power limitation of HiperLCS devices...
Is it actually possible to design SMPS based on HiperLCS (LCS708) to achieve approx. 400W continuous and for example 800W into peaks (out of SMPS)?
Most of the information in datasheet/application notes are for constant output current - the question is how it will behave dealing with dynamic signals/load like music?
Initial assumptions:
AC Input Voltage Range 95-265VAC (switched by voltage doubler, no PFC)
Ac Input Voltage Nominal- 115/230VAC
AC Input Frequency 47-53Hz
DC Output Voltage +/-56V (regulated)

Datasheet of LCS70x says about "accurate programmable minimum and maximum frequency limits" - i believe that is already integrated in this device?
Does it actually make sense to create PIXIs project using maximum peak current values (worst case -800W)?

that depends on how much dynamic headroom you want your amplifiers to have ...

Good day. Base on your specification, depending on the dynamic range, we can decide what particular Power Integrations product suits the design requirement. With that may we know the requirement for dynamic power? The reason for this is that 400W continous power going to 800W peak power is somehow twice what is nominally required and we would like to understand if this is really the exact requirement. We do have several Power Integrations ICs that can cater 400W continous power with around approximately 10% more for peak power but not 200% so we are just wondering if this is really the realistic dynamic requirements as per your application. LLC operated not too far above resonance ( e.g. 10% above) can process significant peak power without pulling the operating freq below resonance, but you ideally need to have a ckt that prevents below res operation to save the fets and the large RFI that comes from capacitive (below resonance) switching ...
A fixed hard min freq on the VCO should do it.
