TNY268's based pwr spply output diode blows out when output's shorted

Little spark at output just kills 1n914. Can I protect it some way?

Hi,

What do you mean by spark at output?

Is it a short circuit at output?

Do you have the voltage and current waveforms for the diode?

with my tweezers by chance. Unwillingly, for a liiiiiitle moment. That was enough to blow out 1n914 at the output. I put in there another one and the problem was solved completely. The whole circuit represented in the file above works just perfectly for nearly half a year. Any reprimand. The case described was the first one...

Hi,

Probably the diode might have got degraded. However Iwould stongly recommend you to look at the diode peak inverse voltage and current flowing through the diode while it is conducting, so that you can make sure that your design has enough margin.

tap both osc. probes on cathode and anode of the diode? Should I insert a serial resistor into the output wire in order to watch the osc. diagram of the current that flows through the diode? Thank you PI !

Hi,

Yes you can probe. I would suggest you to connect Gnd tip of the probe to cathode of D6 and positive end of the probe to anode of D6. I would suggest you to use a barrel probe.

Do not connect any other probes to Osciloscope.
