10mm transformer problem

Posted by: ozgur.bas on

Hi,
we used power integration design software with getting bigger transformer sizes than we expect.
software gives 12mm transformer but our design needs max 10mm transformer.
We need design advices  for 85-265V ac dc input, 5V 0.5W output isolated power supply to use power integration ICs.

There are so many variables involved in the design of a switching transformer that I can not give you a straight answer.  You can try to manipulate the program by manually entering the core you want to use. Since I expect the new core to be smaller, then your flux density will be larger.  If so; you can increase the number of turns on each winding to reduce the flux density. However I do not know if you have enough space to fit the new number of turns. If you are using an EE or EI core, then you can try to use an EER core. This type of core has larger area than its EE and EI counterparts. Let me know if this info is useful for you. If not, we can try something else

Thank you for your interest.

I will try to explain our experience on "PI expert software" again.

We started to look through a device of another company which uses"LNK30608" and "EE10P8M1.7-00" transformer and "FPT2005" optocoupler. The power stage of the device will be enough for us, but PI design software does not give any transformer size smaller than 12.6mm. We expected it is limited to 12 mm in software. Is it true? We tried with very small power values on software with getting 12.6 mm transformer. Is there any way to verify  a design with same sizes as "EE10P8M1.7-00"? We need a ref design with "EE10P8M1.7-00" which gets 85-265V ac-dc and gives 5 volt 100mA.

is it possible you post your design file including including schematic?   also please post the specs of the core you are trying  to use.  I will try to manipulate the software to calculate what you need,

I understand now. The program is calling for a core FD12.6, You need a smaller core but the program does not have it available.

I do not know any core to suggest you. You need to look for a core that fits your dimensions specs. Once you have the specs, I can show you how to enter the core parameters and the bobbin dimensions to the program
