input capacitor rating for 110v AC input flyback circuit

Hi ,

I would like to know if i can use a 250V AC rated capacitor , for the input dc capacitor for the flyback circuit using TOPSwitch. PI Expert gives only 400v rating capacitor as choice. Pls clarify.

PLS check the datasheet of the cap, to verify its maximum DC voltage. Normally, the 250Vac cap can handle 400V dc easily, but you really need to verify it.

Thanks for your reply. In the datasheet it is specified as 250VDC. Wont this be Ok for a 110V input power supply. Pls clarify.

it should be ok for the 110Vac system, since the maximum DC voltage for 110V ac is 155Vdc, about 60% derating for the cap. PLS contact with the vendor the cap, if you have any more questions about the input cap.
