Gapped Core Effective Inductance should report Nominal value

Posted by: mk27 on

When PI Expert reports the ALG value (Gapped Core Effective inductance), it reports LP_min/(T*T).

PIXls reports a value which is LP_nom/(T*T).

For example, for a nominal inductance of 937 uH, and minimum inductance of 844 uH:

PIXls will report an ALG value of 162, and PI Expert will report 146.

It seems to me that what PIXls does is correct, and PI Expert should also report a value based on the nominal inductance.

Note that the reported LG (Estimated Gap Length) will change accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback. Which product are you referring to?

We'll look inot this. I think that the transformer construction form has it correct though - it does specify nominal inductance.

I noticed this when doing a design for TNY3.\

The transformer construction form lists two values:

1) Nominal Primary Inductance.  This is correct.

2) ALG value in the Materials section.

In PIXls, the listed value will give you the nominal inductance.

In PI Expert, the listed value will give you the minimum inductance.

ok. Thanks for the feedback. We'll look into adding the nominal inductance in PIExpert as well.
