lnk304 & diodes

refer to lnk302 series datasheet and figure 5: is D4 necessary? Can I remove that diode?

D4 is good for surge. with D4, two input diodes work together to handle the surge from input. And D4 is good for EMI too.

ok. but if I don't care about emi problems because in my application there is a surge protection and an input filter, can I remove D4? Thank you. Nicola.

I cannot see any problem either and you can try with only one input diode if you really do not care about surge and EMI.
